We were latchkey kids during ww2 . Our parents were working at picatinny arsenalfor the war effort and Wilma 2 yrs. older looked aftert us.Helen was away in college and Seth was a cadet in the Air Force.ONE freezing day in march we walked home from school and decided to go in the woods to visit our favorit pond.IT was covered with ice and we ventured out on the ice and it startred to give awaay. AS we fell in ,inour heavy clothes,we panicked we could swim bot not in these conditions.as we tried to climb back on the ice it gave away. along came wilma and her friends and they managed to pull us out. She ran us home andpuled us cout of our clothes and put us in a hot bath.WILma was the hero and when our parents got home some hours later we had learned a haed lesson.
