Ivan is shown here wearing the shirt and cap of HYPISCO, the Hyde Park International Softball and Canoeing Organization. It was through HYPISCO that I came to know this bright, witty great guy. For years, we pitched against each other at the Sunday morning softball game in Hyde Park. No better rival could anyone have asked for — determined to win but never gloating over victory nor moaning over defeat. His smile shown here was the expression on his face more often than not, even when he was displaying his gentle cynicism about the often weird world we inhabit.
